Jacob Smith House Recommended for Lacey Register of Historic Properties

The Lacey City Council will review the recommendation to add the Jacob Smith House to the Lacey Register of Historic Places at its regular meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The Lacey Historical Commission approved the Jacob Smith House’s nomination to the Lacey Register of Historic Places at its meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Background

The Jacob Smith House, owned by the City of Lacey, is located at 4500 Intelco Loop SE and has appeared on the Washington Heritage Register since 1988.

Built in 1859, the Jacob Smith House stands as the oldest house in Lacey and one of the oldest in Thurston County. It exemplifies the architecture that pioneer settlers built in the region, featuring Greek Revival elements, and remains one of the few surviving examples of its style. The property retains its original form and setting, clearly conveying the character of pioneer-era homesteads.

How to Nominate a Property

Anyone can nominate a property for inclusion on the Lacey Register of Historic Places with the property owner’s consent. The nomination process is guided by Lacey Municipal Code 16.53.030.
