Lacey City Council Recognizes Ruth Weigelt
During their August 20 meeting, the Lacey City Council recognized Ruth Weigelt for being named 2024 Seattle Mariners “Fan” of the Year!
We’re so proud the Mariners selected Ruth for this amazing honor because it was not only based on her 25 years as a season ticket holder and her unwavering dedication to the team – the award was also due to her commitment and dedication to her community. And, as many of you may know, Ruth is a past Spirit of Lacey recipient, and is deeply involved in our community.
She’s been volunteering for over 50 years including chairing community groups, supporting K-12 education, and serving on a number of City committees and advisory groups. And, you can typically see Ruth at just about all our community events!
To touch on just a few things she’s been involved with over the years:
- Ruth has been an active YMCA volunteer and board member for over 40 years.
- •She’s been chair of the North Thurston Citizens for Schools Committee for many years.
- She’s one of the founding members of the committee that presents the annual Lacey Spring Fun Fair, including serving President of the committee for countless years.
- Ruth been involved with Girl Scouts, Soroptimist Club, Lacey South Sound Chamber, and a number of other groups.
- She’s a member of the Lacey Lodging Tax Advisory Committee and has served on advisory councils for the Lacey Police Department, Fire District 3, in addition to the Lacey Parks Outreach Team and the list goes on!
Again, we are so proud the Mariners chose to recognize Ruth. In addition to the throwing out the first pitch of the game on Friday, August 9, they presented her with a custom jersey, and a few other gifts.
Congratulations, Ruth, and thanks again for your commitment to our community!
