Lacey Holiday Lights Will Make Your Season Shiny and Bright

Kick off the holiday season in a very bright way! Join us Monday, December 2 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Huntamer Park for our new event: Lacey Holiday Lights, sponsored by Interstate Batteries and OBEE Credit Union.

This year, instead of the Lighted Parade, the park will be surrounded with festively decorated vehicles so you can experience the magic up close! You can stroll around the park, enjoy the beautiful displays, and interact with the people, organizations, and businesses. Then, at 6 p.m. the whole park will shine bright when we flip the switch for the annual lighting of Huntamer Park and trees — a dazzling sight you don’t want to miss!

The excitement doesn’t stop there. Throughout December, visit Huntamer Park to enjoy the spectacular, animated lights, listen to holiday music, and snap a selfie or group photo to capture the moment!

Lacey Museum’s on the Move!

Have you heard the exciting news? The Lacey Museum is moving to a new location and will reopen early next year! (The current site closed in early November.)

Space has always been a challenge for the museum, limiting the exhibits and activities it can host. The new location at the Bell Center on 6th Avenue provides over 1,100 square feet for exhibits, programs, interactive exhibits, events, and other uses. This expanded facility will allow the museum to showcase items that could not be previously displayed.

“Lacey has a rich history we haven’t been able to fully show off,” said Erin Quinn Valcho, museum curator. “This move will open up a lot of possibilities for the museum. We have a number of fascinating exhibits we can’t wait to share with the community.”

While the move to a new location is much needed, it is only temporary. The City’s efforts to establish a Lacey Museum & Cultural Center next to the Lacey Depot in the Lacey Depot District continue.

The historic Russell House (pictured above), the Lacey Museum’s previous home, will become a dedicated research center where you can explore the museum library, archives, subject files, genealogy collections, and more!

Now’s the Perfect Time to Trim Your Trees

Fall and winter are the perfect seasons to prune your trees. If you own property, it’s your responsibility to maintain any trees on your land, including those along the strip between the sidewalk and the road, to keep pedestrians and traffic safe. This means trimming branches to at least 10 feet above sidewalks and 14 feet above streets.

As a reminder, with storms and falling leaves, please do not blow leaves into the street. This helps prevent local flooding by keeping storm drains clear of leaves and debris.

Learn more about tree standards in the Lacey Municipal Code, Chapter 12.20. You can also get information about tree protection and removal on our website.

Thank you for helping keep the City of Lacey beautiful and a Tree City USA for over 30 years!

Need Help Navigating Housing Conflicts? The City’s Here to Provide Support

When it comes to housing issues, sometimes tenants and landlords don’t see eye to eye. In these situations, the City’s here to help find solutions that keep people in their homes and respect property owners’ rights, when necessary. The goal is to balance both party’s interests using a voluntary, confidential conflict-resolution process through the Dispute Resolution Center (DRC).

For years, the City’s partnered with the DRC to help tenants and landlords resolve issues. This year, we expanded this support to HOAs and their members. The City covers all costs for these services.

If you’re a tenant, landlord, HOA, or HOA member dealing with conflict, contact the Dispute Resolution Center at Info@MediateThurston.org or (360) 956-1155 to explore your options.
