Help Create a Better Community for All

In early May, the City will launch The National Community Survey, in partnership with Polco, and we need your input!

A person uses a tablet to fill out an online form. The Polco logo appears in the top left corner of the image.

How it works: Randomly selected households will receive a survey invitation in the mail over the next few weeks. If you receive an invite, please follow the instructions and share your input! Your feedback will help us make important plans for our future, together.

What if I don’t receive an invitation? If you aren’t selected for this initial survey effort, don’t worry! You’ll have an opportunity to participate in a community-wide survey soon. To become a member of Lacey’s digital sounding board and get notified when this community-wide survey is available, visit the Polco sign-up page and register for a Polco profile.

Thank you for helping make Lacey a better community for all!

Parksploration: Depot Park

A collage shows a train depot replica, a historic marker sign, a train-themed play structure, and a row of food trucks under string lights.

Lacey’s park system is one of the best municipal park systems in Washington with over 1,200 acres of park land and open space, miles of paved, ADA-accessible trails, several community buildings, and the Regional Athletic Complex (RAC). And, it’s right in our backyard!

Lacey Depot Park is located along the Karen Fraser Woodland Trail near St. Martin’s University and serves as a focal point of the Depot District. The Depot building, the City’s 50th Anniversary Landmark Project, is a near replica of the original depot that opened in 1891 in the same area. The building is open April – October for the community to use its indoor picnic tables (during park hours) and for private rentals. The City also hosts a variety of community events at the park, including the Lacey Night Market (see information below).

Park visitors and trail users can enjoy other amenities year round (during park hours), including:

• A train-themed play structure — the Lacey Rotary Club donated $50,000 to the project in celebration of their 50th Anniversary

• Two restrooms (accessible from the outside of the building)

• Drinking Fountain

• Three Historic Markers — the original Lacey Depot, Lacey Plywood Plant (both formerly located on this site), and a timeline of key events in Lacey/Lacey Rotary Club’s history.

Lacey Food Truck Depot

In addition to the features listed above, the park is home to the Lacey Food Truck Depot. A variety of food options are available and vary based on the vendors’ schedules. (Each food truck is an independent small business and operates on its own schedule.)

Odd-Even Watering Schedule Begins June 1

From June to September, the average daily water usage of all Lacey water customers more than doubles — from about 6 million gallons in the winter to 15 million gallons in the summer (see graph on right). Rather than add costly infrastructure to meet the increased demand for only four months a year, in 2006, the City started an alternating day watering schedule. This helps manage demand during the summer and keep costs down.

Bar chart showing average daily water usage by month; usage is 6 million gallons Jan-May and Oct-Dec, rising to 15 million gallons daily from June to September.

Prior to starting the odd-even watering practice, Lacey’s average summer peak water demand was 17 million gallons a day. In 2024, the average peak demand was reduced to 15 million gallons a day — a considerable decrease even though the number of Lacey water customers increased!

You can apply for a temporary exemption or variance if you planted a new lawn (sod or seed) or landscape area, or have an irrigation system that waters areas on both sides of the street at the same time. To apply, contact Water Resources at (360) 438-2687 or WaterResources@CityofLacey.org.

Learn more about the Mandatory Odd-Even Watering Schedule (June 1 to September 30), at the Odd-Even Watering Schedule webpage.

Outdoor watering schedule: Odd-numbered addresses water on Mon, Wed, Sat; even-numbered addresses on Tue, Thu, Sun; no watering on Friday. Effective June 1–September 30.

DID YOU KNOW? The City does not limit the amount of water you can use. However, if we all take turns, we can deliver enough water with our existing system and our community can avoid building additional water infrastructure needed for only four months of the year.

For example, a new well would cost about $2 million. Infrastructure projects like this are paid for by utility payers.
