Project Background

The City has identified 18,000 locations where tree root growth has caused sidewalk offsets. To provide a long-term solution that restores safe pedestrian access and reduces ongoing maintenance costs, the City has implemented a sidewalk repair program that involves a full sidewalk replacement with a root barrier and planting tree species better suited for the available planting space.

This contract provides for the removal of existing trees, including their stumps and root systems, and the installation of approximately 171 city-approved replacement street trees and 5,200 ft of root barrier. It further includes the restoration of topsoil to grade and irrigation systems, as well as the removal and reconstruction of approximately 21,000 square feet of sidewalk, curb and gutter, curb ramps, driveway entrances, and any additional work as specified in the project plans. The tentative start date is Monday, September 28.

If you have any immediate construction concerns, you can call the project inspector, Aaron Berreth, at 360-239-2319

Project Update

Hello neighbors! It’s your friendly Project Admin with another project update.

A quick heads-up for the neighborhood: saw cutting is officially underway. This work can get a little noisy, so if you hear some extra buzzing and cutting, it’s us moving even closer to being able to repair the sidewalks.

Expected work hours: Monday – Thursday, 7 am – 5 pm.

I just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to the residents who took the time and effort to decorate the stumps! Your creativity has brought some unexpected joy, smiles and laughter to the neighborhood. That deserves a round of applause!

From witches to skeletons to some wonderfully creative Halloween decorations, these stumps have gotten quite the makeover. Who knew a sidewalk project could come with its own neighborhood Halloween display?

The stumps will remain in place through November 2nd. So, enjoy the spooky stump show while it lasts! After that, the Halloween guest will have to pack up and move on.

Thank you for your patience, your flexibility and for making this neighborhood such a fun place to work. We will keep you updated as the 2026 Sidewalk Repair project progresses.

Until next time, watch your step, enjoy the decorations, and don’t let the skeletons scare you!

Great Turnout
Dear Jubilee Residents,

Thank you to everyone who attended the recent resident meeting regarding the City of Lacey’s 2026 Sidewalk Repair Project. We appreciate the strong turnout, thoughtful questions, and the opportunity to discuss the upcoming work with the neighborhood.

As the project moves into construction, we encourage residents to visit the City’s 2026 Sidewalk Repair project webpage and sign up for project email notifications. This will be the best way to receive updates regarding construction activities, scheduling, temporary access impacts, and other important project information.

The City recognizes how important the sidewalk and pedestrian network is to the Jubilee community. We look forward to completing these improvements and providing safer, more accessible, and ADA-compliant pedestrian routes throughout the neighborhood.

We also appreciate your patience and cooperation while construction is underway. Our goal is to keep residents informed and minimize impacts as much as possible throughout the project.

Thank you again for your participation and for helping us make Jubilee a safer and more accessible community.

Sincerely,

City of Lacey Public Works
