Transportation Benefit District

The Transportation Benefit District (TBD) was approved by voters and passed by Council on 9/8/2016. The TBD allows a 0.2% sales tax increase to be collected to fund transportation improvements. The funds can only be used for pavement maintenance and preservation to improve the condition and extend the life cycle of the City’s transportation network through the use of structural rehabilitation, pavement repair, patching, asphalt resurfacing, slurry seal, and other restoration and resurfacing methods, and shall include pedestrian improvements to provide for repair of City sidewalks and curb ramps repairs or replacements. These funds are collected in accordance with RCW 82.14.0455 for a 10-year term.

A freshly paved road, funded by the transportation benefit district (TBD), divides into a Y-shaped intersection surrounded by green trees, with traffic signs and a blue sky overhead—a result of pavement rehabilitation efforts.
