We are largely a volunteer operated office, so our volunteers are very important to us. People volunteer with us for many reasons: to give back to their community, to give back to those who served our country, to bolster their resume, for work/office experience, and countless other reasons.

Below are some of the key positions that our volunteers help us with. But if you have other skills that you think would be of help to us and our mission, then please feel free to let us know! We’re always looking to expand our abilities and services for our veterans. 

Front Desk Specialist

Purpose: The position of Front Desk Specialist serves as the receptionist for Lacey Veterans Services Hub (LVSH), supporting the organization’s mission of helping veterans and their families. The Front Desk Specialist represents the organization to the public who visit or contact the organization’s main offices Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Responsibilities:

• The Front Desk Specialist answers the main phone line and directs calls to providers as needed
• Greets guests and directs them to Hub offices or locations
• Answers questions about the Hub and provides forms when necessary
• Assists Veteran households with basic documentation that is needed for services including filling out the LVSH intake form
• Is an active listener who can perform motivational interviewing
• Acts as a liaison between service providers and Veterans households
• Other duties as assigned

Van Driver

Purpose: The Position of the Van Driver is to assist in transporting Veterans and their families to medical appointments within Thurston County and to the Puget Sound Medical Center – American Lake campus in Lakewood, Washington.

Responsibilities:

• The Van Driver is knowledgeable of the Thurston County area and the Puget Sound VA Medical Center – American Lake campus
• Maintains transportation log for every trip
• Assists Veteran in completing transportation waiver, as needed
• Is an active listener and provides information about Hub and other Veteran services
• Ensures that the vans are clean and fueled as needed
•  Other duties as assigned.

Outreach Specialist

Purpose: The position of Outreach Specialist serves as the presence of the LVSH at community events. Outreach Specialists have dual roles in these events, engaging community members to support the Hub as well as connecting Veterans and their families to the Hub and the services coordinated through it. The Outreach Specialist represents the organization to the public who attend community events, local fairs, and town gatherings.

Responsibilities:          

• Participate in community/local neighborhood events
•  Stay up-to-date on the variety of services and opportunities in Thurston County
• Help other volunteers or City staff with set up and tear down of the event
• Answer questions regarding Veterans Services and Veterans Empowerment from the community
• Work with the City to assist in planning and preparation of events in the community
