2022-23 Lacey Youth Council Begins Work
monthly updates to the City Council at the 2nd regular Council meeting.
The Lacey Youth Council (LYC), now in its fourth year, recently kicked off the 2022-23 year. The LYC serves as an advisory body to the Lacey City Council and provides local high school students an opportunity to share youth perspectives with local leaders, learn more about local government, work on community projects, and earn volunteer hours.
“We look forward to working with this great group of students,” said Rafael Fernandez, LYC Staff Liaison. “Not only do they learn a lot about local government, they provide a perspective that helps enhance the connection between youth and adults through creative and fresh thinking around important local topics. It’s truly a win-win relationship.”

City Launches New Volunteer Litter Pick-up Program
In addition to our Adopt-A-Road and Adopt-A-Trail Programs, the City now has a Volunteer Litter Pick-up Program to provide community members an additional way to contribute to a cleaner environment and enhanced roadside appearance throughout Lacey.
Unlike the Adopt-A-Road Program that has a minimum 2-year obligation, the Litter Pick-up Program does not require a long- term commitment to participate. Individuals, groups, and businesses can take part in the Program on terms that fit their needs and schedules.

Homeowners Association Academy Planned for Saturday, November 5
Are you a Homeowners Association (HOA) board member who wants to learn more about HOA best practices? Well, mark your calendar and attend the 2022 HOA Academy on Saturday, November 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Lacey
Community Center (6729 Pacific Avenue SE).
Whether your association is self-administered or has professional management, this educational opportunity will provide valuable insights and answers to many of your questions regarding successful HOA governance. The event will also include time to network with other HOA representatives.
This conference-style event, hosted by the City, features presentations and discussions lead by professionals who are knowledgeable in HOA legal issues, board responsibilities, dispute resolution, neighborhood safety, and more.
The academy is open to all South Sound area HOA managers and board members. You must pre-register to attend and space is limited. Registration is $35 for Lacey and Lacey Urban Growth Area board members and managers; $45 for
other jurisdictions. Additional members of the same HOA will receive a $10 discount.

Parksploration: Huntamer Park
Did you know Huntamer Park is named after Thomas W. Huntamer, a former mayor and member of Lacey’s first City Council? The park is located in the center of Lacey’s Midtown and features an outdoor performance stage, two climbing rocks for kids, picnic tables, benches, and a large, open area perfect for picnics, playing in the grass, or just relaxing and reading a book.
Huntamer Park is home to many of the City’s outdoor community events. During the summer, the park hosts the City’s lunchtime concerts, Children’s Entertainment Series, and Music & Movies in the Park. In October, Children’s Day is a family favorite (see article below for details), and the Lighting of the Christmas Tree & Park and Lighted-vehicle Parade are the perfect way to kick off the holiday season! In addition to City events, many other events, hosted by a variety of
organizations, are held in Huntamer Park.
If you haven’t had a chance to check out Huntamer Park, you’re missing one of the City’s best entertainment treasures!
Lacey has one the of the State’s best municipal park systems. It includes just under 1,200 acres of park land and open spaces, miles of ADA-accessible trails, hiking trails, several community buildings, and a premier regional athletic complex. Come to Huntamer Park on Saturday, October 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a day filled with FREE, family fun! We’ll have games, activities, arts & crafts, entertainment, food for purchase, and more — rain or shine! You don’t want to miss it!
To add to the fun, we invite you to dress up as your favorite animal or put on your best adventure or khaki attire (of course, it’s not required) to go with this year’s theme: Go Wild!
