Anti-Discrimination Statement and Hate Speech Condemnation

The City of Lacey (City) has no tolerance for discrimination.

The City is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and equitable community where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect.

The City will not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind, including but not limited to discrimination based on race, ethnicity, creed, color, national origin, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, veterans’ status, marital status, genetic information, or the presence of any sensory, mental, or physical disability.

The City strives to create a culture that values and celebrates the unique perspectives and contributions of every individual. Discrimination undermines our core values and will not be tolerated in any aspect of our organization.

During the March 25, 2024 Commission on Equity meeting, a group of virtual participants made a series of reprehensible anti-Semitic, racist, sexist, and other discriminatory public comments. While the City supports the public’s First Amendment rights, it does not tolerate hate and resolutely condemns these comments. Those who attempt to abuse the City’s public forum in the future should be on notice that hateful speech or behavior will be swiftly condemned.
