To get more information or apply, visit the Lacey Youth Council webpage or email LYC@CityofLacey.org. Share your voice. We want to hear it!

Joint Animal Services: Increasing Positive Outcomes for Animals in our Community

Animal shelters across the U.S. face a difficult situation: The number of animals entering shelters has increased since 2021. Several factors contribute to the increase, including higher pet care costs and housing insecurity.

In addition to the increase in animals entering shelters, adoptions have decreased causing many shelters to be at, or over, capacity. In 2023, Joint Animal Services (JAS) saw an 8% increase in dog intakes, alone, over the previous year.

To address this problem, JAS has worked to increase positive outcomes. In 2023, they increased their foster program by 105%, fostering a total of 548 pets, including 435 cats. They also increased the number of animals transferred to other no-kill shelters and rescues across the state. Overall, they increased all of their positive outcomes by over 35%!

How can you help?

  • Adopt your next furry friend from JAS! The fee to adopt a dog is $90, and $70 for a cat. All animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and have received their first set of vaccines, Bordetella (kennel cough), and de-wormer.
  • Become a Foster! Becoming a foster has never been easier. You can sign up and do the orientations online — at your convenience!
