Community Development Block Grant Program

On June 18, 2024, the Lacey City Council approved starting the process of becoming its own CDBG entitlement community; the City provided letters to US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Thurston County declaring the City’s intent to become a CDBG entitlement grantee and to not participate in the Urban County CDBG program as part of the Thurston County CDBG Consortium. As an entitlement community, Lacey will receive funding from HUD directly on an annual basis. Lacey will receive an estimated $304,850 in CDBG funding for 2025.

The CDBG program provides funding to support affordable housing and community development needs in Lacey.

Community Development Block Grant Funding Uses

CDBG funds are used for a wide range of community development activities including neighborhood revitalization, economic development and improved community facilities and services. Any project receiving CDBG funding is required from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to meet at least one of three national objectives:

  • Benefit low- and moderate-income persons.
  • Aid in the prevention or elimination of slum or blight.
  • Meet urgent community development needs.
