DNR Requests NO DRONES in Wildfire Areas

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) needs assistance in addressing an issue that is creating negative impacts on aviation firefighting operations in Washington.

DNR has observed that many local governments, fire districts, and other governmental and non-governmental entities are launching drones in and around areas where wildfires are occurring. When this occurs, it is dangerous for air crews, firefighters, and the public. Firefighting aircraft cannot operate in areas where drones are operating, which delays critical operations. As the saying goes, “If you fly, then we can’t.” You can find more information on this topic here.
